Child with a Temperature

We are aware of how worrying it is to have a sick child. If you are concerned about your child we will always see the child the same day at the surgery. Often children develop a temperature because of an infection. This is usually caused by a virus and the child will get over such infections without the use of antibiotics.

The following advice will help to reduce the temperature:

  1. Give paracetamol (e.g. Calpol, Disprol)
  2. Give plenty of cool drinks and encourage them to drink little and often
  3. Dress in cool clothes
  4. Sponge down with tepid water (not cold)

If a child is not improving over 24-48 hours or if you are worried please do not hesitate to telephone the surgery for further advice.
