Diarrhoea

In adults and children, diarrhoea is usually caused by a virus infection and will usually settle without treatment within a few days. Drink plenty of fluids or Dioralyte solution. However if symptoms persist, consult a doctor.

Diarrhoea in babies and young children needs careful attention and is frequently accompanied by vomiting. If severe the child should be given only clear fluids or Dioralyte for 24 hours, even if vomiting and should be encouraged to drink little and often. Symptoms should start to settle within 24-48 hours, but may last longer, if symptoms persist consult a doctor. If breast feeding, this should continue if possible
